Website Love: Wedding by Color

I feel that I absolutely must devote an entire blog entry to my favorite wedding related website: Wedding by Color.

I joined the site a few days after getting engaged. And I am so glad that I did. Everyone on the site is super supportive. It is also very inspiring to see the details of their weddings. I’ve gotten so many wonderful ideas for my own wedding, as well as recommendations on decor and accessory vendors.

If you are a bride to be and are not already a WBC member, I say sign up now!

Trends for 2009/10

I read a lot of blogs and message boards, so it is easy to see what is becoming popular for up coming weddings. I picked out a few trends that are currently on the rise, as well as one that was popular last year and is still going strong.

Fish for Centerpieces

betafish

This is a new and creative alternative to floral centerpieces. Beta fish come in so many colors which makes it easy to match them to your wedding decor. Interestingly enough, I once saw an episode of Whose Wedding is it Anyway where a bride was requesting fish. The planner had never heard of such a thing and she made quite an effort to change the brides mind. I guess said bride was just a little ahead of her time!

Just a note of caution: make sure you have a plan for what to do with the fish at the end of your reception. You don’t want to be stuck with a tank full of fish!

Feathers

What a wonderful way to save money on flowers. Brides are now using feathers for centerpieces and bouquets. They are so soft and romantic. Of course the type of feather you want to use will determine if you will actually be saving any money. Ostrich feathers can be pretty pricey.  feathers

Save the Date Magnets

Dilemma: You send out your save the date cards, but your guests lose them in a pile of papers or accidentally throw them away.

Solution: Magnets! Your guests can slap them on the fridge right away where they will see them staring back at them whenever they reach for a snack.

There are now many websites that will print your designs onto magnets for you. Or if you are a DIY diva, you can buy magnet kits at most craft store which you can stick to the back of you cards.

Birdcage Veils

Out with the old cathedral length veil and in with the super small and elegant birdcage veil! These are so fun and so stylish. I’m even contemplating getting one for myself (even though I already purchased a regular veil).

For those of you who love supporting independent crafters, there are many options to be found on Etsy.com, such as this veil by Brendasbridalveils. birdcage_veil

Candy Buffets

candy2 The candy buffet is still hugely popular. They can serve as a desert option as well as a favor for your guests. You can choose colors to match your wedding or candy types to coordinate with your theme. Many planning companies have added candy buffets to their services, but they are also fairly easy to DIY.

I mean really, who doesn’t love candy?!

First Post!

Welcome to Wedding Addict. I created this blog because I have become obsessed with wedding planning since becoming engaged on December 21, 2008. There are just so many wonderful ideas floating around out there, but I am only having one wedding! So I decided I would share the things I’m finding with others to help them make their day perfect too. I will also be sharing some details of my planning process. I hope everyone will enjoy this blog just as much as I know I will!
